After two near-death experiences, I struggled to understand why I came back. Everybody likes to say, “Well, you still have something left to do.” That’s great. Anybody want to fill the guy who came back in on what that is? Nobody up there handed me instructions.
While I’m figuring it out, I can leave some messages of hope for people who need them and do something with the life I still have. And I’m gonna make sure He hears me livin’ loud enough that He don’t forget me again.
Lyrics
You can focus on when yer gonna go
Or how well yer gonna live
You can count the miles behind you
Or love with what you've got to give
I've seen good men leave too early
I've seen hard men fade away
I've had that midnight phone call
Take the color from my day
But I ain't gonna waste my breathing
Counting shadows on the wall
If I'm still standing in this body
Then I reckon there's a call
You can focus on when yer gonna go
Or how well yer gonna live
You can count up every heartbreak
Or count what you can give
You can stare down that horizon
Like the end is drawing near
Make damn sure He hears you livin'
So He don't forget He's left you here
There's coffee in the kitchen
There's sunrise on the land
There's work left in these fingers
There's kindness in these hands
There's a song that needs a singin'
There's wrong ya can make right
There's somebody needin' mercy
That you might meet tonight
You can spend your life starin' at the finish line
Or spend it makin' the road worth ridin'
I ain't got no promise past this breath
But I ain't wastin' what God's still providin'
Make damn sure He hears you livin'
Let that truth ring loud and clear
You ain't buried
You ain't finished
You ain't out of chances here
You can focus on when yer gonna go
Or how well yer gonna live
You can fear that final goodbye
Or give all you came to give
You can stare down that horizon
Like the end is drawing near
Make damn sure He hears you livin'
So He don't forget He's left you here
Yeah, make damn sure He hears you livin'
So He don't forget He's left you here
